Class VIII makes Soap in Chemistry

Class VIII has been busy making soap in their Chemistry Lessons this week!

Class VIII is in the midst of their specialist Chemistry Block and have been studying Saponification under the watchful eye and guidance of Mr Tsogkas.

Saponification is at the heart of soap-making. It is the chemical reaction in which the building blocks of fats and oils (triglycerides) react with lye to form soap.

The soaps they made was derived from 95% Olive oil and 5% coconut oil.
