Class V and Eurythmy- Diwali

Opening up the beginning of the academic year with the study of Ancient India, the class has continued to stretch their bodies with yoga and learn some of the positions and names of the asanas.    Experiencing visits to a Hindu Temple, a Gurdwara and listening to Buddhist stories, their experiences have taken form in the celebration of Diwali through Eurythmy.  Mrs Diana Skinner, our wonderful Eurythmy teacher and the highly accomplished pianist, Dr Andrianna Minou, have enabled the children to heighten their standard of learning to another level.  Mrs Skinner and Dr Minou's commitment and skill drives the purpose of this subject to flourish within the school, benefitting everyone from their knowledge and their wealth of experience.  This  celebration is a window into the world of an expressive performance art, allowing the children to feel a sense of harmony within the content, both in movement and in the speech.

With Blessings and Thanks

Meet the teacher

{item_alt_tag}

My name is Elijah Kolawole-Johnson, I am originally from the southern part of Nigeria, and I am fourth amongst three siblings.  I am the Middle School Maths teacher.

Learning journey: Life itself is a journey, you will agree with me when you are on a journey, it is a learning curve filled with highs and lows. In retrospect, I deduced how important it is to be philosophical and stay positive when the terrain is rough.

Personal Qualities: I have always been a keen, continuous learner with a quest to make a difference. I consider myself privileged to have worked alongside a lot of good people whose lives and values have practically impacted me positively. Secondly, I consider myself a philosophical and self-motivated person. This can be evidenced at different stages in my life. Work experiences: In my earlier years in the U.K., I started off volunteering at my local charity, helping and signposting people to organisations to access support. As a welcome Supervisor, I also served food and warm drinks to people. My challenges through my earlier years helped me appreciate life; and develop a strong sense of empathy, and active listening skills. My first experience in a school was working as a teaching assistant, supporting pupils with varied learning needs; SEMH, ADHD, ASD, EAL just to mention a few. Having to work directly alongside the Head of SENCO helped me develop a strong passion for teaching.

Strengths: I am a continuous learner and public-spirited person. My personal lived experiences have helped me accentuate my transferable skills. I consider myself a person who is diligent and self-motivated, one who doesn't easily throw in the towel when the chips are down. Apart from being a Maths Teacher, I read a lot of autobiographies and motivational texts during my leisure. This hobby has helped me to have an insight into other people's successes, strengths, and weaknesses. It may be tough to learn from negative experiences, but the truth must be said that these experiences make us stronger and develop into well-rounded people. In the same vein, as a continuous learner, I have deduced how important it is to learn from other people's experiences as an example for me to make informed choices.

Hobbies: I am an outdoor person. I love nature, pets, and wildlife. During my spare time, I play football and table tennis with friends and family.
